Stuffed.

I went to the store this morning with the intention of buying some pan dulce and coffee only to discover that the massively heavy bag I've been carrying around didn't have my wallet in it. When I got back to the shop I decided to play "What's in your bag!"
First thing in my bag was a smaller make-up bag
Contents of the make-up bag included;
 4 lipsticks
1 pencil sharpener
1 Neosporin,
2 eyeshadows
1 lip brush
1 acne spot treatment,
1 70spf sunscreen
2 hairbands
1 hair clip
2 wig pins
1 corset lace

But wait... here's the rest of the contents of my (shockingly small) bag;
3 receipts
1 BART ticket
4 chapsticks
trash
1 spray hairgel (not for me)
1 roll of elastic
1 package of needles
1 origami needle holder
1 digital camera
1 cell phone
1 pair fingerless gloves
1 waterless toothbrush
1 package hot cocoa
5 snaps
1 reproduction Victorian button hook
1 skirt bar
1 toupee clip
1 wig pin
1 pair 8" scissors
1 pair thread scissors
1 fabric swatch
2 highlighters
4 art pens
1 eraser
1 mechanical pencil
2 gel pens (1 black, 1 blue)
6 spools of thread
1 ipod (not pictured)

Sometimes during Tech I just keep stuffing things in there "in case I need it".  There is a point however when there is no way to find the things you need.

The bag now contains;
wallet, phone, camera, ipod, scissors, 1 chapstick and well...
most of those pens (I need a lot of pens, don't judge.)
Much better.

tech haiku

I'm In tech again
soon I shall be a human
but not soon enough

Still behind on the show but fortune smiles on me and allows me a little extra time to prepare tomorrow. When working on a show a very typical question is "so what are you doing after this?" To which I can now answer... "I'll be sleeping eight hours a night, walking to work, reading books and kayaking in the Pacific ocean with my best friend" Senioitis can be dangerous, must continue to concentrate this week.

I forgot my good camera!

In my haste I left my film camera in Berkeley... leaving me to take pictures of Troilus and Cressida with my digital. The digital camera, she screams at me "I cannot do this." "There is not enough light!" "I hate you!" and so on... Thus I have about five photos I think I can use in the actual portfolio. It's kinda crappy but it's better than nothing... anyway here are a few interesting shots (quality aside)

A Quick Update

So there have been no new posts of late because I'm too busy doing things to reflect on them.  Opening one show on Thursday, temporarily relocating to Carmel to open a show there next week and already starting prep work on the next two shows... Haven't had a break since before Sacramento, haven't had two consecutive days off since... um May?  It's good to have work but it's bad when it all piles up like this.  My back has been killing me for about two weeks now.  The knots under my shoulder blades have tied themselves over two or three times, but tomorrow I've got a 50 minute massage scheduled and I can't wait... Hope I can find some WiFi in Carmel so perhaps I can blog, check email and all that electronic jazz next week. ok sleep now.  Early morning tomorrow followed by a very full day.  Wish me productivity.

Octopus Postcard

Is the water deep enough?

1st day with water, some leakage, actors sick, heading back to work very soon... no time for complete sentences...

An "old people" moment

Sometimes old people have been known to complain about the weather, prices and "kids these days"... well here is where I complain about prices because mostly the rest of my life has been the exciting world of shopping, lots and lots of shopping (in case you don't know, I hate shopping so it makes me really cranky).  Mind you I am at least spending other people's money but it doesn't make it that much better.  A pair of new Levi's is now up to $60 a pair (ouch that's a chunk out of the budget)... Since I am shopping for a full show of clothes, hauling around a full trunk-load of bags isn't exactly practical if you want to hoof it so I've been driving a lot more than I would like to.
Yes this sign says $4.01 for regular (the cheapest I've seen all week has been $3.91)

After a long day of spending gobs of someone else's money I go back into my own account and sigh as I walk through the grocery store and realize that a decent loaf of bread is up to $5 a loaf!  Instead I bought some fresh yeast and a new bag of flour (a total of $5.50 that will bake into probably 8 or 10 loaves)

I don't know that there's much to be done about it but it is a bit demoralizing...
Next week I'll be heading into Tech week so I'm afraid this week is all about more shopping (grumble) and a little sewing and lots of time at the theater.  Wish me luck.

Food for thought

"In Most kinds of addiction the harm comes not from the substance itself but from the fact that the addiction distracts from other things we need; substances that nourish, experiences that feed and support and gratify us. This deprivation in turn reinforces addiction."
--Phillip Slater, "Wealth Addiction"

---makes me think of tech week every time.

During tech, I go to work, then come home and have a listless night of "sleep", wake up and start paperwork for the next day of tech... then maybe I'll do some shopping for the show, head in early to get everything in order and back to the theater where we usually eat at odd times and sometimes food that is not what we need. We skip our yoga classes, we miss concerts, and graduations, we go in to work exhausted and sick, broken bones and all, our families and friends learn to expect to just not see us for at least a week solid ... and I do this at least once every three to six weeks (as do most theater people). Theater seems like a fun profession at times but at others it can be very unhealthy.

What do you do that is destructive but perpetual, "nessicary" or not?
